Sagres Intro - Day trip from Lagos - Sagres Beaches - Sagres Fort - Cabo São Vincente - Algarve Intro
Sagres is a beautiful wild and rugged region of the Algarve which possess a unique remote atmosphere and offers wonderful surfing beaches. Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and is a vibrant exciting city that also provides the main international airport of the country.
Sagres position on the very western edge of the Algarve makes it a sensible starting location for a tour of the Algarve region. This guide will provide an overview of how to travel from Lisbon to Sagres by both rental car and public transport.
Sagres lies on the south western tip of Portugal and is 300km (190miles) south of Lisbon. For those visitors luckily enough to have their own car as transport will find the fastest route between Lisbon and Sagres is south along the A2 expressway and then west along the A22. This route may not appear as the shortest on a map, covering 330km, but is by far the quickest at just under three hours. This route does involve the relatively expensive toll expressways but will only take half a day of travel.
Public transport between Sagres and Lisbon is the least of any of the major towns located along the Algarve but it is still relatively easy to travel between the two destinations. Most journeys will require a connection at the much larger resort town of Lagos.
